Shree Mataji Nirmala Devi was born in 1923 in Chhindwara, in central India. As a young woman she took part in India’s struggle for independence.
Her lasting work, however, was spiritual. She sought a way in which the inner awakening described in many ancient traditions could be made available to ordinary people — not through belief or ritual alone, but as a real experience that each person could feel and verify for themselves.
Freedom is when you really get your own powers which are within you.
